Underground artists in warehouse art spaces are fearing a backlash in the wake of the deadly Ghost Ship warehouse fire that killed 36 people in Oakland’s Fruitvale district Friday night. The owner of an Oakland restaurant held a news conference Wednesday to express concerns about un-permitted artist spaces, such as one in a neighboring warehouse near Jack London Square. The event turned into a shouting match over how to respond to the tragedy and how to support Oakland’s underground arts scene.
