Advocates Rally on Port of Oakland Commissioners to "Ban the Box," End Hiring Discrimination

In Oakland, community members are calling on the Port of Oakland to "Ban the Box" and end requirements to disclose criminal history on a job application, as the Port's Commission enters the final stretch of negotiations on the job policy for the Oakland Army Base Redevelopment Project. Advocates are concerned that given 49% of people on probation in Alameda County live in the Port's "Local Impact Area" many applicants would face discrimination, and that would interfere with local hiring priorities.
