A measure to crack down on wage theft in California is sailing through the state senate. Senate Bill 588 by democratic senate president pro-tem Kevin de Leon of Los Angeles would give the state labor commissioner new powers to crack down on employers who pay workers less than the minimum wage, deny legally required rest breaks, or require unpaid overtime.
