New Bill Would Reform Low-Level Drug Offense Sentencing in California

A new bill in the California State Senate would soften penalties for non-violent, low-level drug possession. Previous efforts to lessen penalties have failed in Sacramento after staunch opposition from law enforcement groups. However, this new effort would give prosecutors more discretion in the matter.
