Public Transportation Extends Hours For New Year's Eve Celebrations

Several public transit agencies will add service, some of it free, for New Year's Eve. Here are the details:

*BART will run trains until 3 am New Year's Day. There wil be special BART service from the fireworks show in downtown San Francisco. Beginning at 8 pm, BART will alternate train stops between Embarcadero and Montgomery to ease overcrowding. Service will not be free.

*San Francisco's Muni system, including cable cars, will offer free rides from 8 pm New Year's Eve until 6 am New Year's Day.

*Santa Clara County's VTA will offer free service on all light rail and bus lines from 7 pm New Year's Eve until 3:59 am New Year's Day.

*Caltrain will offer free rides after 11 pm on New Year's Eve and will run trains from San Francisco until 2:15 am New Year's Day.
