Los Angeles County environmentalists and other residents are demanding to know why officials ordered the bulldozing of century-old coastal oaks and sycamores. The trees were located along a water conservation dam in the city of Arcadia. They were taken down last week to make way for a dump site for tons of rock and sand that build up behind a man-made flood control project in Santa Anita Canyon.
Four tree sitters were arrested when they refused Sheriff’s orders to disperse.
They were released from jail the next day but held a press conference today to demand answers from Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich.
Pacifica’s Ernesto Arce has more on the story from Los Angeles.
