Ninth Circuit Hears Oakland Coal Ban Case

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments against Oakland’s coal ban today. The City of Oakland, the Sierra Club, and San Francisco Baykeeper are fighting to keep the ban in place to prevent the transportation of million tons of coal each year through Oakland. It’s a plan proposed by developer Phil Tagami who challenged the ban and won. The city is appealing and made arguments before the Ninth Circuit today. KPFA’s Carla West reports.
