The Trump administration wants to expand rules that could deny green cards to immigrants who use Medicaid, food stamps, or Section 8 housing vouchers. The administration says the rules will make sure immigrants do not become a “public charge” by relying on taxpayer funded programs. Opponents call it an attempt to circumvent Congress in order to restrict immigration based on income.
