San Francisco Seeking Safe Injection Sites

State lawmakers have approved a bill to let San Francisco open safe injection sites for drug users. The measure would create a 3-year pilot program in the city. Similar programs in other countries have been shown to reduce overdose deaths, crime, and transmission of diseases like HIV and hepatitis C. San Francisco Mayor London Breed and other supporters are ratcheting up pressure on Governor Jerry Brown to sign the bill into law, despite threats of prosecution from the Trump administration.
