Pregnant Women Inmates Sue Jail

Lawyers for pregnant prisoners at Santa Rita Jail say their clients are getting poor medical care, are under-fed, and sometimes are coerced to have abortions. Now they’re asking a federal court for a preliminary injunction for an emergency transfer of pregnant prisoners to alternative treatment programs in the community. The lawyers announced their latest court filing Wednesday at the Alameda County Administration Building.
