Berkeley Candidates Focus on Housing Crisis in Race for Mayor

With thousands of new apartment units now under construction throughout Berkeley, it's no surprise that housing development is one of the central issues of Berkeley's mayoral race. Senator Bernie Sanders recently endorsed Councilmember Jesse Arreguin, a major boost for the campaign going head to head with fellow councilmember and political opponent Laurie Capitelli, who has been endorsed by Robert Reich. The four front runner candidates spoke to KPFA about their plans for housing affordability - all are prioritizing building more affordable housing throughout Berkeley - addressing homelessness, and the effects of gentrification.
