Governor Brown Signs, Vetoes Immigration Bills

Governor Jerry Brown continues to sign and veto bills before the end of the month deadline. His latest actions include a victory for immigrant rights activists, and also a defeat. The governor signed a first-in-the-nation bill to give jailed immigrants “Miranda warnings” about their rights before they talk to immigration officials. He vetoed another bill that would have barred local governments from contracting with private prison companies for immigrant detention facilities.
