DEA Says No Medical Use of Marijuana, Rejects Rescheduling from Class 1 Drug

Recreational marijuana users, those who use it as medicine and businesses that produce the plant and its products are in limbo today, the DEA is keeping its schedule 1 status as a dangerous drug with no medical use under the Controlled Substances Act. The agency did loosen restrictions on growing marijuana for research purposes for further scientific evaluation. Critics say there is substantial scientific evidence to support marijuana as medicine, and the standard for "accepted medical use," as defined by the Food and Drug Administration is far too narrow, leaving dispensaries in legal limbo.
