Cap And Trade Climate Program Facing Battles

A centerpiece of California’s efforts to combat global warming is set to expire in 2020. State regulators, Governor Jerry Brown, and some Democratic state lawmakers are working on ways to continue greenhouse gas reduction efforts beyond that date. They’re battling against legislative deadlines, opposition from Republicans and some moderate Democratic lawmakers, and a lawsuit challenging the state’s cap-and-trade program.
