Backers of an initiative to extend California’s tax on millionaires kicked off their campaign at a middle school in Sacramento. The coalition of school, health care and union activists want to extend part of Proposition 30, the temporary tax hikes passed by voters in the wake of the last great recession. The new measure would let sales tax hikes expire at the end of this year, but would extend the income tax increases for the wealthiest 2 per cent of Californians in order to pay for schools and health care for the poor. Christopher Martinez reports from Sacramento.
