Central Valley Water Board Allows Oil Waste to Pollute Water

The environmental group Clean Water Action filed a legal petition this week to challenge a decision by the State Water Resources Control Board allowing continued oil wastewater discharges on two disposal sites in Kern County. The decision by the Central Valley Regional Water Board made that decision despite the determination by its staff that the activity threatens local groundwater and the Kern River and should stop. The legal action, which was brought by Earthjustice on behalf Clean Water Action, is demanding the State Board intervene and immediately close the facilities.
