Coinciding with the 42nd anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, tens of thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets across the country to celebrate or denounce the landmark abortion ruling. Activists on both sides have been galvanized by a number of recent legislative pushes to restrict abortions, including the Republican bill HR 7, which passed the House on Thursday. In San Francisco today, anti-abortion demonstrators held a “Walk for Life,” which was met by a relatively small but vocal counter-protest. While California has the reputation of a pro-choice state, several recent laws have abortion-defenders worried that this might be under threat.
