Minimum Wage Rises for First Time in 6 Years

California’s minimum has jumped to nine dollars an hour, the result of a law that went into effect on July 1. That law, Assembly Bill 10 by democratic Assemblymember Luis Alejo, will raise the minimum wage again in 2016, to ten dollars an hour. Anti-poverty advocates say they’re glad for the increase, but they say it’s not enough to lift people out of poverty. Christopher Martinez reports.
