The Plaza 16 group took to the streets on Saturday to fight the pending construction of a massive luxury apartment building, slated for development in San Francisco's Mission District. The group calls the project emblematic of the wave of gentrification affecting the formerly low-income neighborhood. Organizers say the Saturday demonstration, which featured free bike repairs, complimentary food, and live music, aimed to highlight the vibrancy of the neighborhood's culture and to challenge those trying to change it. KPFA’s Andrew Klein filed this report from San Francisco.
