Activists Blast Limits on Competition with Energy Utilities

A State Senate committee has approved a measure to put limits on local “community choice” energy programs that can compete with monopoly electric utilities. The measure was strongly opposed by environmental groups and local governments. One amendment made in committee may have removed some opposition, but another amendment leaves many advocates claiming the bill is an attack on local clean energy programs in order to protect investor-owned utility monopolies. Christopher Martinez reports from Sacramento.
