California Announces Proposed Fracking Regulations
California Announces Fracking Regulations
The State of California today announced its proposed regulations for oil and gas well stimulation practices. Specifically the new rules will apply to hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as fracking, to increase oil production from rock formations deep in the earth. The proposed regulations come after a year of legislative wrangling that resulted in Senate Bill 4 that was signed by Governor Jerry Brown in September. Environmental groups today weighed in on the new regulations, saying they come short of what is needed, and calling for a moratorium of fracking. Vic Bedoian reports from Fresno.
