California Adopts New Rail Safety Regulations

The California Public Utilities Commission has adopted new first-in-the-nation rules to protect workers in rail transit agencies like BART. The new rules come on the eve of union votes on a proposed BART contract, and less than two weeks after the deaths of two BART workers who were struck and killed by a BART train during the commuter rail strike.
