As the one year anniversary of the Chevron fire nears, the city of Richmond has hired a law firm and plans to sue Chevron for damages. The fire injured 3 workers and sent 15,000 residents with respiratory complaints to hospitals. Supporters of the lawsuit say the fire has had serious long term consequences: the city's property values have decreased and its reputation has suffered.
