Students and low-wage workers teamed up across the University of California system today in protests. The contract has expired between the University and their unionized workers with AFSCME. The two parties are at an impasse in negotiations and are headed to arbitration. The workers and their student allies blame excessive executive compensation, saying the University is asking low-wage workers to subsidize management "golden handshakes."
