Wealthy Donors Push Initiative Spending to $350 Million

A Superior Court judge in Sacramento has tentatively ruled that the state’s political watch-dog agency can audit a mysterious $11million campaign donation from an Arizona group. The ruling could pave the way for disclosure of the donors behind the donation to a campaign organization opposing Governor Jerry Brown’s Proposition 30 and supporting Proposition 32. The donation from the group Americans for Responsible Leadership is part of a massive wave of spending on California ballot initiatives, with a growing share of that money coming from wealthy donors.
