Federal Agency Holds Contentious Hearing Over Plans to Restart San Onofre Power Plant

Federal officials say they will thoroughly review plans to restart the San Onofre power plant amidst a string of leaks and troubling malfunctions at the station. A public meeting held in Dana Point last night frequently descended into a cheering match as anti-nuke activists faced off against a group of organized Edison workers and power plant supporters. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission assured a divided and noisy crowd that the nuclear generation station would not open until mid-2013 at the earliest. Pacifica KPFK’s Ernesto Arce files this report from Los Angeles.
