Community activists in the Salinas Valley town of Gonzales are fighting a proposal to build a state-of-the-art waste incinerator. The plan was put forward by the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority as a way to reduce the amount of municipal waste going into landfills. Dozens of residents went to the agency’s board meeting Thursday night to once again oppose the plan. Some residents say their civil rights have been violated by the agency’s process and want the project terminated. Vic Bedoian reports from Fresno.
