California Lawmakers Pass Protections for Undocumented Immigrants

A bill to that would prohibit local law enforcement from detaining undocumented immigrants for immigration authorities, unless they have a record of serious or violent crimes, has passed out of the state legislature and is heading to Governor Jerry Brown's desk for a signature. Supporters of the Trust Act, AB 1081, say it will save local resources for public safety enforcement and restore immigrant communities' trust in local police. Opponents say crime will go up if the threat of deportation is removed. Pacifica's Dan Fritz reports.
