Supporters of a Southern California charter school faced off with police during yesterday’s Long Beach Unified Board meeting. Parent, teachers and students packed the board meeting to denounce the district’s plans to revoke the New City School for academic and financial shortfalls. The tense meeting was cancelled after several charter parents began to read a prepared speech out loud. Pacifica KPFK’s Ernesto Arce files this report from Los Angeles.
