Suspended Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi and his accuser, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, faced off in a first-of-its-kind Ethics Committee hearing over whether to remove an elected official from office. Friday’s hearing was disrupted by an abrupt recess during Lee’s testimony,apparently because of a security threat unrelated to the hearing. Mayor Lee wants to remove Mirkarimi for “official misconduct” related to his domestic violence conviction. Mirkarimi says he regrets the domestic violence incident, but he say the process could make him a better sheriff. Christopher Martinez reports from San Francisco.
