Committee Postpones Hearing On Homeowners Bill Of Rights Bill

A package of bills to protect California homeowners facing foreclosure ran into trouble today, when supporters abruptly pulled them from consideration in the Assembly Banking Committee. The package would put into law many of the temporary protections won through a legal settlement that the states reached with the country's largest mortgage servicers earlier this year. But it's facing stiff opposition from the banking industry—and today backers of the package pulled two key bills from committee consideration, a signal that they may not have enough votes to pass in their current form. Brian Edwards-Tiekert reports from the State Capitol.
