Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich gathered with law
enforcement partners to announce the latest effort to combat
counterfeit and piracy crimes. The city’s lead attorney says the latest operation comes at the peak of the holiday shopping season and just as Los Angeles officials
announced a $72 million budget deficit. Trutanich says the city loses out on billions of dollars worth of sales and sales tax every year. Critics of the latest crackdown say the demand for cheap goods is high especially during a tough economy.
