Federal and state authorities have announced a 44.4 million dollar settlement to pay for environmental damage from the Cosco Busan oil spill. The cargo ship collided with a San Francisco Bay Bridge tower on November 7, 2007, tearing a hole in the hull. The resulting spill dumped 53,000 gallons of toxic bunker fuel into the bay.
