BART police closed the Civic Center and Powell Street stations and the Powell Street cable car turnaround this evening in response to another rush hour protest. The demonstration was the latest in a series of street and on-line protests against the fatal BART police shooting of a homeless man last month who police say was wielding a knife. Protesters were also rallying against BART's earlier decision to shut down mobile phone service at the Civic Center BART to prevent activists from coordinating their actions. Pacifica Radio's Tina Bachemin was at the Civic Center BART station earlier this evening where she filed this report.
