Supporters Rally in Support of Pelican Bay State Prison Inmates' Hunger Strike

Prisoners who say they are punished for months or years at Pelican Bay State Prison's State Housing Unit in inhumane conditions began a hunger strike today. Prisoners, often accused of gang-related activity, are isolated from the general population in 6 by 10 cells for 23 hours a day, with little human contact. Around 60 supporters of the hunger strikers rallied in front of the California State Building in San Francisco today, calling on state authorities to improve prisoner conditions. Judith Sherr reports.
