Los Angeles Homeless Shelter Scales Back Services

One of Los Angeles’ largest homeless shelters is scaling back its services due to a budget deficit of 1.3 million dollars. The Union Rescue Mission will be closing its secular subsidiary, EIMAGO. EIMAGO operates numerous winter shelters in the Los Angeles area, as well as two transitional housing units downtown. The closures were announced in light of a $305,000 delay in government funding. With a new fiscal year beginning July 1st, and the possibility that the government funds may not arrive at all, the Union Rescue Mission has decided to concentrate on its privately funded initiatives. Caro Rolando files this report from Los Angeles.
