L.A. Residents Say Redistricting Plan Hurts People of Color

A group of Los Angeles residents is criticizing the first drafts of a redistricting map that they say will reduce the political power of underserved communities. The Latino Coalition of Pico-Union says the first version of California's Citizens Redistricting Commission map would disempower Latinos, African-Americans and Asians in the city. The Commission has been tasked with redrawing California’s Congressional and state districts to reflect last year’s new population data. Pico-Union residents are urging those in the community to come out to two public Commission hearings this week to call for a more representative district. Pacifica’s Ernesto Arce files this report from Los Angeles.
