UFCW Holds Strike Authorization Vote

The union representing thousands of Southern California grocery workers is holding a strike-authorization vote today. The United Food and Commercial Workers say there has been no progress in contract talks with management companies. If workers authorize a strike, it does not necessarily mean a walkout would occur but it would give the union the power to call for a strike if negotiations eventually break down. Workers at the three unionized supermarket chains remember the 2003-2004 UFCW strike. Many say they’re not ready for another five month strike but are prepared to defend their jobs and benefits. Pacifica’s Ernesto Arce files this report from Los Angeles.
