Haiti's exiled president Jean-Bertrand Aristide returned to his home-country today, just days before national elections. Aristide's not running for President again, and his party, Fanmi Lavalas, has been banned from even participating in the election. But the United States still pressured the government of South Africa, where Aristide lived in exile, to prevent him from leaving until after the voting was done. Judith Scherr has the story:
