In a move harshly criticized as unethical by environmental advocates across the nation, the Department of Interior is proposing to give a permanent water allocation to the Westlands Water District, the former employer of Interior Secretary David Bernhardt. Westlands comprises more than half a million acres of ag land in the western San Joaquin Valley. They employed Bernhardt for years as a lobbyist, before President Trump picked him to head the agency.
