The California Department of Justice is stepping in to provide oversight of the investigation into the shooting death of Stephon Clark by two Sacramento police officers. 22 year old Clark was shot to death in the back yard of his grandmother’s home on March 18. In a written statement, the police department says the police officers were fearing for their safety when they fired, believing Clark was pointing a gun at them. Clark was unarmed and was holding a cell phone when he was killed.
