Federal Court Hears Sanctuary Lawsuit Against Executive Order

The Trump administration’s plan to cut federal funding to sanctuary cities has come under fire in a federal district court in San Francisco. Santa Clara County and San Francisco have sued to block the plan, which is part of Trump’s January executive order on immigration. They call the order unconstitutional, violating limits on presidential power, due process, and the rights of local governments to set their own local policies. A lawyer for the Trump administration described the order as using the “bully pulpit” to promote the administration’s immigration policies.
