Sheriffs, Republicans Oppose SB54 Immigrant Protection Bill

Some Republican lawmakers and county sheriffs are joining forces to stop Senate Bill 54, a sweeping measure aimed at limiting state cooperation with federal immigration officials. The measure, known as the “California Values Act”, would limit communications between local police and sheriffs and federal immigration officials. It would also end the practice of sheriffs renting jail space to house immigration detainees.
