Lawmakers Reject Bill to Limit Sanctuary Law

A state Assembly committee has rejected a Republican bill aimed at overturning California’s “Trust Act”. That’s a law protecting undocumented immigrants from federal immigration requests to hold them in jail for extra time. Republican Assemblymember James Gallagher says his bill would close loopholes in a so-called “sanctuary state” bill, ensuring that felons are not protected if California becomes a sanctuary state under Senate Bill 54.
