In late April, five community leaders embarked on a 17-day hunger strike demanding the resignation of San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr. On May 19, their demand was met. Following a fatal police shooting of an unarmed suspect in the Bayview district, Suhr stepped down as head of the department and deputy chief Toney Chaplin was tapped to replace him. Since then, many have wondered what’s next for the group of hunger strikers, who are known as the Frisco Five. KPFA’s Andrew Klein has the story.
