A coalition of teachers, students and parents in Fresno Wednesday rallied to pressure district officials and school board trustees to fund badly needed improvements in the city’s educational system. Since the fall, the teachers’ union has sponsored public meetings at schools throughout the city to determine how available funds should best be spent. Fresno Unified School District officials refused to bargain on those issues in recent labor negotiations. Meanwhile, distracted school district officials, already under FBI investigation, are facing increasing scrutiny over the handling of no-bid construction projects.
