Three state senators are pushing a package of legislation to deal with California’s teacher shortage crisis. The problem was largely created by a wave of teacher layoffs during the recession. The lawmakers want to restore some past programs that were eliminated during the recession, including a loan forgiveness program for new teachers who work in disadvantaged school districts.
