Senator Loni Hancock introduces today 4 bills to restrict coal exports
in Oakland and statewide. The bill package comes as the city of Oakland
could authorize a coal exports project in the old army base that would
ship up to 10-million tons of coal from the port to Asia per year. Four
to six "six-mile-long coal trains" would transport the carbon fuel from
Utah to Oakland everyday. The project has been debated by people on both
sides of the issue several times in front of the Oakland city council
members.
Pacifica's Nina Pareja was in Oakland and filed this report.
