Governor Brown's Budget Pleases Republicans, Disappoints Advocates

Governor Jerry Brown unveiled his new budget proposal at the state capitol. The $123 billion spending plan garnered praise from Republican lawmakers, but it’s a disappointment to health and welfare advocates who had hoped for restorations to programs cut during the recession. It’s also frustrating some criminal justice advocates who had hoped for sentencing reform plans, only to see increased spending for jail construction projects.
