On Thursday, representatives of both guards and inmates of Pelican Bay Correctional Facility agreed to reduce wellness checks on inmates from once every half hour to every hour, during the times of ten pm and six am. These “wellness checks” have been in place since August 2nd, to ensure prisoners are not harming themselves. Pelican Bay will also provide inmates with ear plugs, to help stifle the noise of doors slamming. During daytime hours, prisoners will still be subjected to checks every half hour.
